Are you looking to build your profile on Instagram? Well, then this episode is for you!

Instagram is one of the fastest-growing social media platforms. As of December 2017, there are 800 million monthly active users who are posting up to 95 million images per day. That’s insane right!

Catching the attention of audiences on Instagram is becoming harder than ever before so it’s essential to optimise every part of your Instagram profile and content to cut through the noise.

So here are our 5 simple tips to improve your Instagram account and stand out from the crowd.

1. Craft the perfect Instagram bio

Your bio is the text that appears at the top of your feed and gives visitors a quick snapshot of what you are all about. You only have up to 150 characters to play with here so make them count.

Take this opportunity to describe your brand in a way that is visually striking. Using dot points, emojis and short sentences to keep readers engaged.

Think about what keywords best describe the values and ethos of your business and you may also want to include a line describing the type of content you are going to share in your feed to entice people to follow you.

2. Add your contact details

Wow! You wouldn’t believe how many people miss this obvious one. Ensure it is easy and for people to get in contact with you via Instagram – after all if you are on there for business reasons you are looking to do business.

On a business profile, you have the ability to add a phone number, email address and directions to your office right at the top of the feed so that users can contact you with the click of a button.

These clickable contact points make it so simple for potential clients to reach you.

3. Maximise your searchability

Be found on Instagram! Instagram scans your handle (that’s the @XYZ) and your Instagram name (the bolded words at the very top of your bio) for search terms when users are looking for an account.

The keywords you use in these two sections should be the main keywords they would use to search for your business or services – so they should definitely include your business name and keywords for the service or product you provide.

Taking time to add geo-locations and hashtags to every post will also increase your searchability. This handy trick also means you can reach a broader audience, by giving them more ways to find your content.

When it comes to hashtags we suggest a good mix of both broad and targeted hashtags to increase your reach and target a niche audience. Best to steer clear of spammy hashtags such as #followforfollow or #like4like or widely used hashtags as the Instagram algorithm may penalise this.

4. Consider image dimensions

This might seem like overkill but on a highly visual platform, it’s imperative that you look at all the little details especially with imagery. Resizing your images to square format or use a taller image to dominant more screen space on user’s phones.

5. Remember to tell a story

Instagram Stories continues to dominate the platform in 2018, so it’s essential to include this as part of your social media strategy.

Improve your chances of reaching the top of the Instagram feed by regularly posting new content to Instagram Stories.

Create visually rich images by adding emojis, text, hashtags, geo-locations and even GIFs to every slide, and remember to include a call-to-action to get your audience engaging with your Instagram account.

So, there you have it, those are our tips on how to level up your Instagram profile, and we really hope they help!
