Are you committing one of the seven deadly sins on social media? You could be doing damage to your online profile or missing opportunities without even realising it.

There’s a right way and a wrong way to do social media, your approach could be preventing you from reaching more potential clients and building your business without you knowing. We’re here to help you uncover how you can avoid making these mistakes on social and get the best reach and engagement with your audience, so let’s get into it.

1. Occasional posting

The first deadly sin is the ‘occasional posting’. Are you guilty of posting content without a schedule or consistent approach? Consistency on social media allows you to remain top of mind with your customers and develop anticipation from your audience.

5 posts per week is a good number to show up in your clients’ social feeds without being overbearing.

2. Auto sharing from Instagram

It seems so easy, why wouldn’t you do it? Unfortunately, the Facebook algorithm isn’t a fan when it comes to auto sharing from Instagram. If you are using this method your fans are less likely to see your posts.

Also auto sharing brings across the Instagram formatting, such as hashtags and tags, and this is a dead giveaway to your audience that your content is automated.

3. Not boosting posts

Did you know you could reach a much larger audience by putting a small amount of budget behind your social posts? As little as a few dollars per day and the right targeting will get your posts seen by hundreds more potential customers.

4. Focusing on the hard sell

No one wants to be sold to, and this goes for social media too. In fact, it’s even more important on a platform built for socialising. We know it’s tempting to want to shout from the rooftops about your amazing products or services but competition for eyeballs is strong online.

Take the approach of delivering value to your customers with great information so that you are the expert they think of when they are ready to buy.

5. Not adding value

Whilst we are on the topic, the next sin is not bringing any value to the table. Why should your fans be interested in your posts? Use these 3 little words as your anchor when creating posts – inspire, entertain or educate.

6. Poor image quality

Humans process images 60,000 times faster than text. Poor image quality can make your brand look cheap and unprofessional. It’s that simple.

7. Buying fake followers

Possible the most deadly of all the social media sins!

Buying fake followers may make you look popular but if you are investing time and effort to create and promote content then you are paying to show your content to people that aren’t real and will never do business with you.

A small following of loyal and engaged people is more likely to result in sales and growth for your business than thousands of fake followers.
